Wanchese Swamp Thing – bird thou never wert

July 2, 2009

'Swamp Thing' comic coverThe talk of the Topix Nags Head Forum is of a Wanchese Monster Man:

Trout fishermen working the eastside of Broad Creek yesterday reportedly spotted and photographed a large slimey creature, resembling a man, walking in waist deep water along the marshes of a creek leading through John’s Ditch. They said the creature saw them and dove into the water and disappeared into the marsh bog. They have several photos taken from about 100 feet away. Later, they said they heard something that sounded like nutria screams from the same direction. This is scary!

Oh, dear. ‘Aunt Bee’ must have her chocolate!

August 4, 2008

Aunt BeeJackie Papandrew, writing on NewsOK.com, relates a surreal anecdote of an Aunt-Bee lookalike having a chocolate-deprived meltdown in Opie’s Candy Store in Mt. Airy, which styles itself as the original Mayberry (I’ll let that pass this time).

Best line: As everyone over a certain age knows, the real Aunt Bea and Opie were characters on that beloved old sitcom The Andy Griffith Show.

N.B. I must note the credits next time I watch the show to find out the true canonical spelling of Aunt Bee. I myself belong to the Bea school.
